Elderberry Syrup Makin'

Hey hi!

In case you haven't watched it, I've recorded a video talking all about Elder Materia Medica here. Highly recommend y'all watching it, if you want to learn more about this magical plant.

Elder is one of my go to plant allies that I work with in a myriad of ways! Elder syrup is probably one of my favorite ways. I have played around with this recipe in so many ways. I've made Elderberry Syrup with Elderflowers, Yarrow, Biden's Alba, Hot Peppers, Peppermint, Lemon Balm, Passionflower, Tulsi, you name it. You can get so creative here and I invite you to do so!

Without further ado here's my latest Elderberry Syrup Recipe:

Tropical Elderberry Syrup

1 cup dried Elderberries

1/2 cup dried Ashwagandha root

1/2 cup fresh Turmeric rhizome

1/2 cup fresh Ginger rhizome

3-4 black peppercorns

7 cups water

1 1/2 cups raw local Honey

Bring plant matter and water to a boil and simmer for 20mins to an hour. I personally like to let it simmer for an hour and then cool down a bit before straining.

Strain out plant material from liquid. (Fun fact: you can keep re-infusing plant material until no color comes off) I rein fused 3-4 times after making this syrup just making delicious decoctions to drink.

Add the honey to the still slightly warm liquid. Taste to see if it's to your liking. You can always add more honey, I start light and then add more if I want. Once the syrup has cooled you can bottle and store in the fridge!

Green blessings,

Jules
