Spring in the Garden
Hello Lovelies!
Springtime, it's the most wonderful time of the year, in Florida! Everything is blooming and after a cold but not freezing winter, all the plants are happy! The perennial fruit trees are bouncing back from the semi cold fronts that occurred over the winter and the annual veggies are full steam ahead. Some of my favorite things to grow right now, considering the fact that I grow mainly in raised beds, are fennel, celery, lettuces, onions, and kale.
I'm transplanting a bunch of these things in right now to capitalize on this beautiful season. Become coming right around the corner is summer when all the annual things fall to the way side and the amazing tropical fruits and perennial plants come to the forefront!
Where can you find beautiful plants to transplant into your own yard, you ask?!
I will recommend a few places where I go to get my plants, I'll list them in order of distance from where I live, starting with the closest!
Tree Amigos Growers in Davie FL
Jason and Santiago are the absolute best! I highly recommend going here just for the fun of it. I'm here on the weekly for mulch, plants, worm castings, gardening advice, goat pets, you name it they have it basically. They're open Wednesdays to Sundays 10am to 5pm.
Little River Cooperative in Miami, FL
Tiffany and Muriel are the plant babes of your dreams and the spaces they touch/ have a hand in are some of the most magical garden spaces this lady has ever seen. Not too mention, you'll get to meet Sawyer the Farm Dog, the best dog whom ever lived. The nursery is open on Mondays from 10am to 5pm. They also bring plants with them to the Legion's Park Farmers Market on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. In addition, they often have open farm days, where you get to go out and visit the farm. Follow them on social media, to stay updated with these events! It's always a blast seeing a bunch of humans out enjoying nature.
Mother Earth Miami in Miami, FL
I mentioned these ladies in depth in my last post, so I won't go crazy with the words here. Gabi and Katia are not only friends but mentors, every time I'm at the nursery I learn something new and leave feeling so renewed from the amazing conversations and the beautiful plants that abound. The nursery is at Earth N' Us Farm, a really cool and fun spot in Miami that I highly recommend. Follow them on social media to find out about garden volunteer days, class offerings, and open nursery days!
Ready-to-Grow-Gardens in Homestead, FL
When I built my first raised garden bed, back in January 2017, Ready to Grow Gardens was where I got most of my plant babies from. So I have a real soft spot in my heart for this nursery. I don't get down here as often as I want, as Homestead is a bit of a ways for this Palm Beach County chica, but I tell everyone about this place! Follow them on social media for some major knowledge videos and all around plant goodness.
Okay that's all for now, Happy planting!
xoxo,
Jules
